G’day USA

G’day USA, I’m coming over in April

American Quilt c 1880 and a little research

I’ll be travelling with good friend & quilt designer

and our trip will see us visiting 11 States over 23 days starting in San Antonio, Texas and ending in Boston, Massachusetts.
As I write that I think Yikes, can that be right?
but it is and it will require a bit of stamina.
I better start on the multi-vitamins today.

We will be at the AQS show at Paducah and the priority now is to finalise which classes to do and get that sent away.

image od Paducah class list

high, medium and low priority...I don't know any other way of doing it.

How on earth do you decide what to do! This is massive, I’ve never seen a class list in Australia with this much to offer.
So I decided to highlight all the classes, lectures and events according to how relevant they are to me.
Pink for essential, a major reason for being there in fact,
Green for those things which I would also benefit from and to fit it in I am prepared to forgo shopping something else,
and Yellow for those which I think would still be interesting if time allowed.
Of course if I don’t hurry my choices may be made for me.
til soon
Margaret

  1. OMG Margaret! How close will you be to Michigan? I would love to meet up with you somewhere.

    • Hiya,
it would be good wouldn’t it. We won’t be in Michigan, butfrom early May we’ll be starting up the east coast from Virginia, Washington etc, few days in New york and few days in Boston. I know all that’s a wee way from you, but are you due for a holiday maybe?
I’m hoping to see Michele in Texas.

  2. yippee!! I can’t wait. 11 states in 23 days? really? How awesome. How can we resist buying fabric from all 11 states?

  3. WOW – I live just north of Boston, what are your plans? anything I can help with or recommend, let me know!

    • Hi Joan,
thank you, that’s really kind. Irene and I will be in Boston and using public transport each day to go up to Lowell for the Textile museum and the New England Quilt museum. It looks pretty straight forward on the MBTA network. Any pointers you can give will be much appreciated tho. Irene and I both enjoy meeting other quilters tho so meeting up for a cuppa and a quilt chat somewhere would be nice too.
      Please keep in touch :-)
      M

      • Oh mercy – I used to work at the New England Quilt Museum! Up until this past November! You’ll love both places; you can easily do both in one day. There is a joint ticket price of $12 that gets you in to both places and the American Textile Museum has a nice cafe where you can have lunch. Be prepared if it snows – if there is no school in Lowell on the day you want to go, the quilt museum is closed that day, too. Have a wonderful time – I think of you every time I pick up my Cobb Quilt fabrics and TRY TRY TRY to finish a project I started AGES ago!

        • Thanks Joan, we’ll keep in mind about the snow. Have you spotted Stella’s comment below? It would be really nice to meet up with fellow quilters, maybe at one of the museums. Let’s please keep in touch.

    • Stella Blunt says:

Joan,I ,too am about 35 miles from Boston going North. Seeing as Margaret is going to be at Lowell Museum, possibly we could meet there or make plans to meet beforehand and drive together. I was just at the Museum Saturday viewing the Patriotic Exhibit and attending a lecture and study hexagons with Pamela Weeks and Lori Chase. Pamela and Don Beld’s new book,Civil War Quilts, just arrived at the Museum. Of course,I had to buy that and have her sign it.

      • Stella, That exhibit and lecture you went to sounds really interesting. I really like the idea of meeting up. It’s great to meet new friends with a common love of quilts.
See above comment to Joan and let’s see what we can arrange. We’ll have 3 full days 9th, 10th, 11th May in Boston.
        :-)

  4. I am close to NYC if you need any suggestions let me know …..
    Kathie

    • Thanks Kathie, I thought I had replied to this comment but can’t find it nor a reply to your email so I can’t have!! sorry :-(
We’ll be wanting to see the American Folk Art and the Metroplitan Museums, any others we simply must not miss? I know there’ll be so many worthy ones but we only a have 3 days. I’d really like to meet up if possible, drink, meal, similar :-)

  5. Went to Paducah myself for the first time 2years ago. It was completely overwhelming for me. If you get the chance, do have a drive out to the Kentucky lakes very beautiful and peaceful after the buzz of the quilt show.
    Have a wonderful time.
    Sue in the UK

    • Hi Sue, just today I got my confirmation of classes so am very happy about that. We are sure to have a wonderful and busy time. We’ll have a car so will try to get out to the lakes to enjoy the scenery. Thanks for the tip.

  6. Hi Margaret, It was great to meet you yesterday at the Applique Group and am pleased to have now discovered your blog. Your quilts are wonderful and I look forward to catching up with you again.

  7. Margaret, I’ve missed your blogs of late. My fault, not yours! Love your new “look” and am excited that you will be in the USofA. I’ll be in Vermont which is only a couple of hours from Boston. I’ve been wanting to go to the NE Quilt Museum myself and was hoping to get my daughter to go this summer. I’d love to spend 5 minutes, even, with you and just get a face-to-face! It sounds like you have many who want to meet up with you. Keep in touch about dates, etc. and I’ll try to make it happen if it will work for you! Marsha

    • Hiya, it will be great to catch up. I’m glad you’ll be back in Vermont and close(ish) by. I’ll keep you in the loop, til soon M :-)
